Papa's House is back. Eat, enjoy, repeat is the motto for Papa's House. After an absence of nearly three months the newly remodeled restaurant opened in mid-November. Originally known as Papa's the restaurant is back with a new owner, Dan Desmond. Pizza is still a staple of the new menu. Breads, sauces and pizza dough are handmade, as they should be. Derby Downs Cart Races The Stallion Springs Police Activities League held the Derby Downs Cart Races on Saturday, Nov. 3. Thirty children between the ages of 5 and 14 raced down a quarter mile hill on Stallion Springs Drive to see who would have the fastest time. After three full runs it came down to the final race between the eight fastest drivers. Derby Downs Cart Races Come out and join the Stallion Springs Police Activities League on Nov. 3 for some racing fun at the Derby Downs Cart Races. Register by Oct. 19 at the CSD for just $20 and receive a free T-Shirt. Oktoberfest Get ready for Oktoberfest, Oct. 6, at the Community Center from noon to 6 p.m. Plan to arrive early and stay late. Beer, wine and sodas will be flowing generously and expect a line for bratwurst. Attendance is expected to be larger than last year's 3,500 people over the six hours. Over 100 people attended a retirement party from the Sheriff's Department for Sergeant Fred Wheeler on Saturday, June 9 at his home in Stallion Springs. Wheeler retired after 25 years in Law enforcement, 15 years with the Kern County Sheriff's Department and 11 years in Long Beach. Six of those years at the LBPD were as a motorcycle officer. The POA annual Dinner Dance on June 2 was a great success. Over 110 people attended for an evening of food and dancing. Gifts were provided for door prizes and a silent auction was held. On Wednesday, April 4, the CERT team met at CERT Headquarters for a tour of Woodward West with Christy Poston, Front Office Lead, serving as the tour guide. Ready for the rain In anticipation of the storms, the Stallion Springs Community Services District provided sand and sandbags to members of the community. The sand stockpiles were located at 28500 Stallion Springs Drive and were available to all residents of Stallion Springs. Stallion Springs CERT The Stallion Springs CERT team held its basic training classes over the past four weeks. The course prepared residents on what to do during an emergency in the community. The classes included courses in Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Search and Rescue, Medical Operations, Disaster Phychology, Terrorism, and Communications. A total of 23.5 hours was involved. It's fog season in Stallion Springs and it can be difficult to see the road through the haze. Due to difficulties in getting the roads striped by a contractor, the CSD recently purchased a striping machine. Following the yellow strips can be a great aid to finding your way home in the heavy fog. The machine has been delivered and the maintenance crew is going through training on its use. Santa visited Stallion Springs during the annual Christmas trailer ride and caroling event on Dec. 8. Rides left every 30 minutes beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continued through the evening. Police Department Commendation On Nov. 15, 2017, Senior Officer James Best Jr., Sergeant Gary Crowell, and Chief of Police Michael Grant responded to a medical aid call in the township of Stallion Springs. Michael Shaub took home the title of Grand Prize Winner at the Property Owners Association Chili Cook Off on Saturday, Nov. 18.
