The Stallion Springs maintenance crews were kept busy during the Christmas week snow storm. The crew spent the day Thursday and well into Friday keeping the roads in Stallion clear. Breakfast with Santa in the Corral room in the Community Center was a huge success. Despite the rain and fog, Santa found his way to Stallion Springs on Saturday, Dec. 14 to have breakfast with all the kids. Stallion Springs had a bit of snow over the Thanksgiving holiday, 4 to 6 inches in some locations. It was beautiful and enough to have the CSD maintenance staff out with the plows clearing the roads. SCE Outreach Team Southern California Edison provided a Community Outreach Team at the Stallion Springs Community Center, 27800 Stallion Springs Drive, during the power outages. Their vehicle was equipped with water, snacks and an electrical power station to charge devices. The Stallion Springs CERT team received a check for $2,500 from Cheers for Charity on Sept. 5, for their work at the annual Cheers for Charity event. Barnes has been the Pastor there for three years and is moving on to a new adventure as a teacher and coach in Stephensville, Tex. Originally from Texas, the move back is going home for them. Stallion Springs Community Church held Vacation Bible School on July 8-12. The theme of the event was, "Roar Life is Wild, God is Good." An average of 80 kids per day participated. In addition to learning, the kids raised more than $206 to go toward books, art supplies, hygiene products and medical supplies for a Haiti school for kids without a home. Kern County Audubon Society visited Stallion Springs to check out the local birds along the lake at Horse Thief Park on Saturday, June 22. Lead by trip coordinators Greg Harglerad and Linda McMillian, the group of 20 walked along the lake with eyes to the trees and sky. The winners are: After delaying the Apple Crate Derby Race for a week due to the weather, the Stallion Springs Police Activities League held the running of the semiannual Derby Race on Saturday, June 1. The Easter Bunny found his way to Stallion Springs for the annual Easter Egg hunt. The event, sponsored by the Police Athletic League, was held in the field next to the Community Center. Gary Crowell was sworn in as Stallion Springs Police Chief at the February 19 CSD Board meeting. Crowell was sworn in by CSD Board President Ed Gordon. The Stallion Springs General Store is back in full operation after just over three months of upgrades to the gasoline storage tanks and pumps. The old single wall tanks were replaced with new steel lined fiberglass tanks to meet current state regulations. A small grant from the state assisted with the cost of the replacement tanks. Baked Potato Fundraiser The Stallion Springs Community Church held a Potato Bake fundraiser for the Women's Ministry. The group will go on a Fellowship retreat to Rankin Ranch in Caliente in October.
