Founded in 1997 with five women (under the guidance of the Abbot of St. Michael's Abbey in Silverado, California), the Norbertine Sisters came to Tehachapi in May of 2000 to form a cloistered community on 475 acres off Water Canyon. As the property had been vacant for about twenty years, these women had a lot of work ahead of them to establish and grow their monastery.
