  • Brite Lake Fishing Derby

    Anglers were treated to a springtime carpet of color at this year's Brite Lake Fishing Derby on Easter weekend. Hosted by TVRPD, nearly 350 fisherman participated. The largest catches went to Cooper Brown, in the 0-to-9 -year-old category. Cooper's trout weighed in at 2-pounds, 13-ounces. The 10-to-15-year-old category winner was Jayden Harrison, with a 3-pound, 5-ounce trout. In the 16 and older category Jeff Starn won with a 2-pound, 13-ounce trout....

  • TVRPD Easter Egg Hunt

    More than 350 kids started Easter a day early as they hunted for more than 5,000 eggs in West Park. Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District hosted this free event for kids 10 years and younger. Besides the traditional eggs, special eggs were also hidden around the park.     A weekend workshop devoted to self-defense for old and young alike was held at the Tehachapi Martial Arts Center in Old Town. Children were taught how to handle bullying threats by Master Derek Demus.     For the first time, since the start of the Mr. Warrior competition at Tehachapi High School, there were two winners. The numerical system used by the three judges produced a tie. The two winners of the 2019 Mr. Warrior are Mathias Ahlgren, an exchange student from Sweden, and Peyton Stowers. Congratulations! Both Mr. Warriors will receive duplicate honors and awards.     A large number of members from the local chapter of the American Association of University Women enjoyed an afternoon lunch in Adventist Tehachapi Valley Hospital's Mountain Cafe. Open to the public, the cafe serves breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch/dinner from 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, and until 5:30 p.m. on weekends. The kitchen and its staff is currently serving around 75 to 100 meals a day to employees, visitors and patients....

    Tehachapi's 8th year for National Night Out took place at Central Park Aug. 7. The event is held yearly as a means to introduce the public to the men and woman who work as First Responders.     On Aug. 11-12, the Tehachapi Loop Railroad Club presented their Summer Model Train Show at the Aspen Builders Inc. Activity Center, 410 West D Street. The club hosted a neighboring club from Lancaster, had several layouts from G to Z scale and held a raffle, which included a six-month club membership and "Thomas the Train" items.     On July 14 Scott and Susie Crooke, the owners of Tangleweed Farms in Tehachapi, hosted their third farmhouse dinner. Seventy five guests enjoyed dinner and wine while listening to Fatt Katt and The Bakerbilly Sound.     Main Street Tehachapi presented the community with a delightful evening event on June 23. Main Street arranged three wine sampling stops around town. Each stop featured wines to taste and music to listen enjoy. At the Tehachapi Visitor Center guests were offered country music and a choice of a red, white or bubbly wine to sample.
