Of course, our sizes change and our taste helps to dictate what we want to wear. Those who came to the Fashion Fiesta, Rotary's Spring Fashion Show held at The Depot on May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) got a firsthand look at styles, colors and fashions available locally as models from The Dressing Room, Dahlia's,...

So many studies talk about how or why your childhood experiences influence your success as an adult. We've all seen the ads on TV for First 5 which promote pre-school for children to set them up to be better learners. However, life with parents during your early years can have the most profound effect on how you deal with life, social interaction, work and so many life experiences. Lucky me. I have wonderful early childhood memories and experiences. Until I was six I was the baby of the family....

The Rotary Club of Tehachapi has been busy welcoming new members which are pictured here. It is our privilege to serve the community in a variety of ways. One of the many projects we do locally is replacing smoke alarm batteries for seniors the week after the clocks change on Nov. 14. In December we do our Senior Holiday luncheon and we work with Kiwanis and The Salvation Army to serve families a pancake breakfast and pictures with Santa. We send ten high school students to leadership camp,...

The next event was a Spring Fashion Show held at the BeeKay Theater. This event not only promotes local shopping by showing just how wonderful the clothes are at Dah...

My Mom is 93 and quite honestly, for her age, is in amazingly good health. I just recently came to the realization that by watching her I developed a false sense of being invincible, expecting to live a long life, assuming that I have some type of miraculous genes that will take me well into my 90s. Now, having had my second wake up call, I am struggling to understand that listening to my body and perhaps slowing down my sometimes hectic pace may be essential to seeing me to a ripe old age. First I suffered a TIA (also known as a mini stroke)...

I recently saw an ad video on Facebook that was a bogus job listing with video interviews. As you heard the description of job requirements, lack of pay, ridiculous hours and the applicant's reaction, it seemed like an impossible position to fill. Of course by the end you learned that it was the job of being a Mom. My daughter sent it to me as a way to say "Thank you, for all that you've done in my life". Well, I would not be half the mom I am if it was not for the role model of my own mother. A...
I remember when I believed that the Post Office delivered no matter what. In fact I thought their motto was “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” But, this is commonly misidentified as the creed of our mail carriers, but actually it is just the inscription found on the General Post Office in New York City at 8th Avenue and 33rd Street. The Post Office doesn’t actually have a pledge or motto. Anyway, since I thought they would deliver, I made the ridic...
