Jenny and Jeremy Jones moved to California from South Dakota. They came from Brookings which is about 45 minutes north of Sioux Falls. Jeremy was hired as a test pilot at Edward Air Force Base so they temporarily settled in Rosamond at the Air Park where they had the use of a neighbor's plane. At their June 7 meeting, the Tehachapi Rotarians had the opportunity to listen to Tejon Ranch Vice President Barry Zoeller. Zoeller joined Tejon Ranch following positions with the Kern Board of Trade, KERO television and the board of CASA. This time of year Tehachapi sees hundreds of Pacific Crest Trail hikers. They come from all over, some to hike all the way from the Mexican border to the Canadian border and some to complete a section or two. They carry most of what they need for the three to four month journey with them, picking up replacement supplies along the way. The Tehachapi City Council had the sad duty of deciding how to deal with the council vacancy created by the death of Mayor Ed Grimes. Essentially they had two choices, to appoint a replacement to fill the position until the November election when a new council member can be elected to fill the remaining two years of Mayor Grimes term. Bob and Tracy Anderson moved to Tehachapi last November from Lancaster where Bob operated a martial arts studio. He and Tracy had a plan to move to the natural setting of the mountains and open a combined fitness, self-defense and firearms training facility in Tehachapi. Contractor Scott Crooke and his wife Susie bought Tangleweed Farm in Golden Hills last October. After a long absence, Tangleweed Farms will reopen to the public on Saturday, April 21. The new owners, Susie and Scott Crooke from Orcutt, Calif., plan to maintain the sustainable, organic farm as it was by prior owners John and Laurie Thorpe. At their April meeting, the Tehachapi Senior Center Board of Directors voted to support the proposed TVRPD bond measure to build a new community center in Tehachapi. Jeff Lingerfelt, President of Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley gave an update on the new hospital at the monthly Greater Tehachapi Economic Development Council meeting on April 4. He said that code compliance adjustments should be completed by mid-May. The weekend of April 7 marked the end of an era for the Tehachapi wine industry. Bob and Patty Souza, the growers who started it all in 2003, symbolically poured their last wine. The reins were passed to new owners Mike Van Atta and his wife Beth Hamilton, who have been Tehachapi residents for about 10 years. Tehachapi resident Stephen Schrepfer, owner of Think Green Pedicabs, brought one of his units to the April 4 GTEDC meeting. Schrepfer had treated City Manager Greg Garrett to a ride the day before.
