Lewis Brown was enthusiastically welcomed by American Association of University Women as the guest speaker at their February meeting. He was the Tehachapi's 2022 Citizen of the Year and is well known as president of the Senior Center. Brown purchased property in Stallion Springs in 1971 after he came here for a rodeo. Yvette Dumler is the new president of Tehachapi Mountain Democratic Club. She has been appointed to fulfill the remaining term of Kathy Kneer who moved out of state for family reasons. Dumler praised Kneer for the leadership she provided during the difficult COVID years when meetings were held on Zoom and social interaction was limited. Local scholarships are important to Tehachapi Mountain Branch/American Association of University Women. When the branch was established in 1984 a special fund called, “Scholarship Fund for Women,” was set up to give tuition assistance to a Tehachapi High School graduate. The amount given has now surpassed $250,000 and money is given to several graduates each year.
