The Tehachapi Lions Club is continuing the Christmas Senior Program for the 12th year. As a part of this program, we are asking the community to help by donating sundries to the following locations: The Chamber of Commerce, The Village Grill Restaurant, Don Perico’s, Old Town Pizza and the Senior Center. The Tehachapi Lions Club received a $500 environmental grant from California Lions Foundation. This grant was given to the Tehachapi Unified School District. As a result, a 50-gallon sequoia tree was planted in front of Tehachapi High School. The sequoia tree is also known as the giant redwood. They can grow to be over 300 feet tall and have diameters of more than 30 feet near the ground. The sequoia trees lifespan can be more than 3,000 years. This is our 10th year participating in the Senior Christmas program. We give low-income seniors a gift of their choice, along with other items. Applications can be picked up at the Salvation Army and mailed back to Tehachapi Lions P.O. Box 3, Tehachapi CA 92581. There is a limited number of seniors that we can serve. The Tehachapi Lions Club and the Rotary Club had the Apple Drop fundraiser on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at the Apple Festival. The winner of the $1,000 Walmart card went to Janet Jennison and the winner of the $500 Home Depot card went to Mike and Kathy Collie. Tehachapi Lions Club held there Peace Poster Contest on Nov. 1. The contest was open to all students ages 11-13. This year's theme was "Kindness Matters."
