    Jan 23, 2016

It's a new year and a fresh look at life! How about a new way of saving lives? Medical advancements and changes in hospital protocols have dramatically affected the focus in blood banking. Gone are the days of broad cattle calls for anyone and everyone to roll up their sleeve and donate a unit of whole blood. It is now more critical than ever to manage our inventory by type and product. All donors are needed, but different blood types can help in different ways at different times! One trend...

    Jan 23, 2016

Today, We Honor The Overall Man Classic Bill Mead Reprinted with permission from Tehachapi Lifestyle Magazine, February 2013 issue. My wife and I have been married just short of 36 years. When I thought deeply about that the other day I was astonished to realize how few big league arguments we have had. Over the last few months, TCT has been on a path of reorganization and renewal. The spring schedule of plays has been totally revised, and new plays and ideas are in the works. Fiddlers Crossing has brought one-person concert-theatre pieces to Tehachapi, with performances by blues master Guy Davis and Celtic harpist Patrick Ball. With the success of those shows, the venue has been considering bringing in a series of one-person concert-theatre pieces. It's natural, then, that the community...

  • Adventure to the Consumer Electronics Show yielded few Martian technologies

    Dale Hawkins|Jan 23, 2016

As an electronics engineer, I've always wanted to visit the fabled International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. However, since I was working in medical electronics, my company wasn't about to spend four-figures to send me there. Today I find myself a journalist and can therefore go for free! My mission: Identify consumer technologies (small bucks) that the aerospace industry (big bucks) may be overlooking as we plan to send people to Mars. Here's what we found. CES has become a...

  • The Ford Files No 113

Tina Fisher Cunningham, The Forde Files|Jan 23, 2016

At first glance, it could be a palace in the mist, arising mysteriously from the pages of history. At night, hundreds of lights create an image of a sparkling Manhattan Island or of a cruise ship beckoning across the water. It's easy to say "Get prepared," but harder to actually sit down and plan it. Red Cross volunteers at the meeting helped attendees jump-start the process by giving out information and Go-Bags filled with life-saving items such as light sticks, emergency blankets, face masks, water and emergency ponchos. Here is som...
