Sync and backup your iPhone to Windows iPhones used to pretend that Windows didn’t even exist. But since there are more Windows devices than iPhones, Apple has (probably reluctantly) provided tools to access the photos, music and videos from iPhones on our Windows computers, too. By far, the easiest way to get your iPhone talking with your computer is to install iCloud for Windows. iCloud for Windows brings your photos, videos, email, files and bookmarks to your Windows computer. iCloud is an o...

  • Love in action

    Nancy Bacon, Reverend|Feb 2, 2019

Greetings! It's February, a month associated with love and valentines. My Jewish friend and colleague, Rabbi Cheryl Rosenstein, was discussing love with me recently. Judaism and Christianity overlap on many things, but love is sometimes perceived differently. We all agree that we are to love God and love one another, but how do we do that? In the Torah, there are three commands to love: "love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18); "love the stranger as yourself" (Leviticus 19:34); and...

  • Our Veterans deserve better

    Tammy Engel, Mortgage Advisor|Feb 2, 2019

If you have a VA loan, I bet your phone is ringing off the hook with offers to "save you money." Or at least, you are receiving multiple postcards by mail, encouraging you to "Refinance NOW!" As a prudent consumer, you already know that anyone who is calling to sell you something is doing just that: Selling you something. If you have not initiated the contact, beware. VA loans are big business, and these offers are not always in the best interest of the Veteran. Here's what contributors to the R...

  • Love is big, love is little

    Mel White|Feb 2, 2019

In one of the movie versions of "Robin Hood," our hero is told by a friend that he will know when he is really in love because he will be willing to die for the woman. Sure enough, later on in the story Robin tells Marian, "I would die for you." Knowing someone is willing to die for you can be an ego boost, sure, but knowing someone is willing to put down the toilet seat for you every day can mean every bit as much. Love is putting food on the table, but it's also a little note stuck in your...

  • The wine was so fine and the food so divine

    Linda Carhart|Feb 2, 2019

Pairing food and wine is an art. Our local chef Mano Lujan, owner of Red House BBQ, is a master at the art. He proved it once again at the Rotary Wine Pairing Dinner. Wine in California is plentiful, and I feel no hesitance in saying that it is mostly excellent. A group of 120 guests mixed, mingled and experienced a collection of wonderful, full, tasty wines brought to us by Loren and Pam Hoffman, Wine Ambassadors for the Boisset Collection. The Rotary Club of Tehachapi wants to thank Mano,...

  • Hearts and flowers, Valentines and books

    Midge Lyndee|Feb 2, 2019

Valentine's are not only for children and sweethearts. So, if you have neither in your life, don't despair. There are wonderful alternatives in creating a happy Valentine's Day... In my elementary school years, Valentine's Day brought both joy and bitter disappointments. Boxes were decorated by students with lacy paper doilies and hearts of red, white and pink. As these boxes were lined up with names clearly printed on each, classmates delivered their Valentines. Some brought for all. Others...
