It is amazing how a clogged drain can ruin a day and then comes the expense of unclogging the drain. Because my house is only a couple years younger than I am, and I was far younger last millennium, I asked how much it would cost to replace the pipes. The estimate was between $2,000-$3,500. A friend of mine has to have the pipes in her house in Arizona replaced and that estimate was about $6,000. Either quote seems like a lot of money to me and I doubt that I am alone in that thought. What does the cost of plumbing have to do with nutrition?...
I would like for a moment to step away from my role as a doctor of chiropractic and become a bartender for a day to raise some money for a favorite charity of mine. Healing Horses and Armed Forces (HHAAF). HHAAF is a local non-profit organization that works with veterans and their families to facilitate their return to normal life in a non-military world. Veterans too often return home after tours of duty in war zones and find it very difficult to adapt to civilian life and hold a civilian job....
The Stallion Springs Board of Directors held a Special Board Meeting on Monday, February 2 related to a possible amendment to Resolution 2003-2 that required all utilities to dwellings or other structures to be underground. Edison previously allowed for service across streets to be overhead to a pole, then underground to the structure. Edison’s new policy and practice is that if any portion of the service is overhead the entire service must be overhead. If any portion of the service is underground then the entire service must be underground. Th...
Wine and Pizza It used to be when ordering your favorite pizza you double checked the fridge to make sure that you also had some beer, and plenty of it, to accompany the Italian pie. However, times have changed and wine can definitely be your pizza’s best newfound friend. Let’s begin with the “typical” American pizza: tomato sauce, lots of mozzarella cheese, topped with plenty of pepperoni and a traditional thin crust. Wines that would work well with this order need lower acid levels, since t...

I’m sure that I’m not the only one who signed up to bring cupcakes for the kids’ Valentine’s Day parties. I’m even more certain, I’m not the only one whose thoughts were filled with delusions of my offspring all working together on this project, while I took snap shots that we could reminisce over later. Unfortunately, that’s not quite how it turned out. My first indication that something was wrong was when the smoke alarm went off at 7 a.m. this morning, while all three of my children were enga...

It’s often true that parents and their offspring have different ideas about what constitutes “good music”. Perhaps I lucked out, having grown up with Gary Mazzola and Joy Gray, both talented songwriters and musicians, as parents. Music was something personal, made right there in our home. Some of my earliest memories include the harmony of their voices, the strumming of guitars and their creative lyrics. While I can’t speak for how they may have felt about some of my music choices growing up, I feel privileged to say that the music they ma...
