His home was in Glendora and that is where he grew up. He went to Citrus College where he studied Police Science with the idea of becoming a police officer. That dream ended when...
Last summer I made a daytrip to Randsburg specifically with the goal of getting a chocolate malt at the General Store there. The town (and the store) has long been a favorite destination of mine as I've been visiting it semi-regularly for over 30 years. Something about the "living ghost town"-in addition to the yummy chocolate malts – just fascinates me. Over the years I've met several different owners of the General Store, but so much of it remained the same that it's always been like a step b...

First, how to prevent frost on car windows We've all experienced it when you're already running late and you rush outside to find your vehicle's windows completely encased in ice and frost. While you may think your plans are frozen solid, don't panic. Here are some suggestions to effectively defrost your car windows and get you on your way! The best option to prevent a frosted or iced-over windshield before it starts is to park your vehicle in a garage. Obviously, this isn't an option for...
How long has it been since you have given any thought to visiting Union Station in Los Angeles other than you can get there from here by taking Metrolink from Lancaster – usually to catch a train to somewhere else? Due to its recent restoration, Union Station is as much a museum as it is a transportation hub. On Jan. 28, a group of 19 people from Tehachapi, representing Friends of the Depot, the Heritage League, the Tehachapi Railroad Club and others traveled by Metrolink to Union Station for a...
Q: My loved one is in the final days of life. What do I need to know and do in order to begin planning the funeral arrangements? This is a great question and one I hear often. My first response is this: Stay home with your loved one. I have had instances where families were with me at the funeral home, and their loved one passed while they were away. This can be devastating. I advise that, instead of coming into the funeral home, either call or send an email so that the information you need can be communicated that way. Don’t ever forget t...

If your vehicle has a few years on it, you've no doubt had your tires rotated a few times. That means, of course, that a technician has loosened the lug nuts (which hold the wheels on) to remove the wheels and then put them back on. Many vehicles have lug bolts that go through the wheel into the wheel hub rather than bolts that are attached to the hub and poke out through the wheel. For our purposes, we'll simply refer to both styles as "lug nuts." Don't be surprised if your Service Advisor...

They were called China Marines. Artillery Diplomacy by CWO-4 Doyle D. Gracey, Jr. USMC, Ret. To gain proficiency in any field of endeavor requires practice and lots of it. I recall being invited to view a night artillery exercise by a Major Brown at 16 Area Impact Zone, Cone Hill, Camp Pendleton. The Major was an ar...
