  • Phantoms at Mojave!

    Cathy Hansen|Mar 3, 2018

I'm sure that many readers remember seeing F-4s parked at Mojave Airport to be transformed into full-scale aerial target drones for the Department of Defense. This transformation process produced a most impressive air-to-air training machine for our fighter pilots in the U.S. Air Force. When finished, the drone was capable of taking-off, navigating to designated locations, flying programmed flight profiles with evasive maneuvers and, in many cases, surviving the dogfight to return to its origina...

  • Major progress on High School build-a-plane program

    Larry LaCom|Mar 3, 2018

On Feb. 26, I took another trip to Tehachapi Municipal Airport to check in on the progress of the airplane building project. Things are progressing rapidly. The beginnings of a fuselage, wing and tail sections are taking recognizable shape, and the students were working with great concentration on moving toward their goal. Project manager Paul Nafziger, motioning to some of the adult mentors on site, said that these are men who have many years in the aviation industry and who know the strict...

  • Prescription painkillers

    Terence G. Brady, Brady Chiropractic|Mar 3, 2018

This is an article I wrote a few years ago, and recent events have brought the subject to the surface again. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had known about the problem for years and nothing seems to have been done about it. There are so many prescription drugs advertised to the general public on television these days, there seems to be a need for regulatory control by the Federal Drug Administration. Cigarettes and alcohol cannot be advertised on network television, but prescription...

  • Fiddlers Crossing celebrates St. Paddy's Day, March 17

    Mar 3, 2018

Now that we have had a little bit of winter weather, we might get some green this year, after all. But there will be plenty of green, anyway, at Fiddlers Crossing on St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, March 17. A concert of Irish songs and tunes will be presented by some of our local musicians at 7 p.m., March 17, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. Performing in the concert will be the Bear Mountain Boys, who usually are heard around town playing bluegrass gospel. The quartet has dusted...
