NCAA conference basketball tournaments, although radically modified this year, are underway and in most cases completed across the country as the field for the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments get completed. Obviously, things are different this season with nearly all conference tournaments canceled or stopped mid-way last year because of COVID-19 mandated lockdowns and stay-at-home orders halting play and eventually the NCAA basketball tournament in 2020. A year later we are still...
I usually fall asleep early – in the chair, of course. When I wake up, I go straight to bed after putting Pepe out for a stretch. I'm fairly certain that this virus we've been dealing with for over a year will not end soon. Vaccinations will help, of course, but vaccinating everyone will take considerable time. So, what to do with my time? I'm thinking that overnight hiking and car camping may give me an outlet. This activity will allow us an opportunity to get away without traveling very f...
I have always been an Ali fan. I literally grew up watching him fight. While I disagreed with his stance on the draft, watching him in the ring was a thing of beauty, "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." In my conference room I have a picture of Ali and his four greatest victories, over Liston, Frazier, Kenny Norton and, of course, the Rumble in the Jungle against Foreman. But what most people don't realize is that Ali's bravado and big mouth were not his idea! According to Angelo...

I travel north occasionally to visit one of my sons. Sometimes we go out to have dinner and one establishment is a restaurant which we Americans call a Chinese Restaurant although that is not what this particular café is called. They often employ people who originated in China and speak perfect English and understand it; literally. I am quite fond of Orange Chicken and one evening ordered it and anticipated the usual fine dinner they served. Egad! It was spicy hot and after two bites I felt...

My husband Al and I had a special opportunity last week to visit with Mike Nixon at Vintage Radials and watch the running of a very rare German aircraft engine from a World War II fighter. This very engine powered a Focke-Wulf 190 that actually downed many of our fighters and bombers in combat during the war, yet those who love history want to preserve this impressive adversary and bring her back to life in flying condition. There is no desire to rewrite the history. Mike Nixon is the...

Imagine sitting in a 1901 dentist chair, waiting for a tooth to be pulled, and the dentist starts telling a tale about the wide open plains, stampedes of wild horses and dusty cowboys, dusty hats and dusty towns. If the dentist was Zane Grey, you might be in for a real adventure! Pearl Zane Gray was born in 1872 when the west still had untamed edges. He became a dentist at his father’s request, after trying out with some baseball teams in the early 1900s. But writing was always his passion a...
