  • How much can I contribute to my IRA in 2015?

    Mar 28, 2015

How much can I contribute to my IRA in 2015? The combined amount you can contribute to your traditional and Roth IRAs remains at $5,500 for 2015, or $6,500 if you'll be 50 or older by the end of the year. You can contribute to an IRA in addition to an employer-sponsored retirement plan like a 401(k). But if you (or your spouse) participate in an employer-sponsored plan, the amount of traditional IRA contributions you can deduct may be reduced or eliminated (phased out), depending on your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI). Your ability to...

  • Love you till the cows come home

    Natalie Brooks|Mar 28, 2015

We’ve all seen the darling images, which depict the more rural lifestyle. The cute little salt and pepper shakers with the proverbial black and white cow smiling up at you, the decorative yard flag with the happy cows, the adorable “love you till the cows come home” plaque and even the occasion tasteless pitcher in the form of an utter. I can recall the sweet little cow on the milk carton at the supermarket. We also have the functional cow crossing signs that line our roadways heading out to St...

  • Getting there

    Mark Fisher, Doc|Mar 28, 2015

A few weeks ago I took part in an outing that took the MetroLink from Lancaster down into Downtown Los Angeles. On the weekend you can ride unlimited for $10. So you could ride from Lancaster to Oceanside. then back again all for $10. Also, it isn’t hard to do. You buy your ticket from a kiosk (which, when we were there, the security guard was happy to help w...

  • Amber Cross brings 'Old-School Country'

    Deborah Hand-Cutler, Fiddlers Crossing|Mar 28, 2015

Listening to the old-school country songs and honest back porch voice of Amber Cross has been likened to putting an archival Smithsonian recording on the turntable. Hers is an authentic voice, both in sound and feeling. She writes from her own life’s struggles and experiences, with great power and emotion and a sense of place. Originally from Maine, Cross spent her early years surrounded by gospel music in a small town church where her father preached and her mother played piano. Today she lives on California’s central coast, where she spe...
