    Terry Delamater, RPh, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

Boost fruits and vegetables. People who eat the most fruits and vegetables, no matter how they are grown or processed, have the lowest risk of developing cardiovascular disease. This is just one of the reasons to buy and use canned, frozen and dried fruits and vegetables in addition to fresh produce. Availability, convenience and less food waste are other top reasons. If you don’t like prepping produce, buy fresh-cut produce like shredded cabbage, washed and ready-to-use romaine lettuce, d...

Spring is the ideal time to begin searching for that new home. With the warmer weather and longer days, it is a great time to take advantage of viewing open houses to get a better idea of what type of property will suit your lifestyle and budget. However, the biggest challenge during the spring season of house hunting maybe be getting ahead of other prospective home buyers looking for that perfect home. To be one step ahead of competition, I suggest getting our Nations Lending Accelerated Edge...

  • A home away from home

    Clare Scotti, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

I often see communities gathering at hotels for events, conventions, weddings, retirement parties and more. Much less often, I see hotel executives out in their communities, learning about local businesses, networking and finding ways to collaborate. That's why I have to give credit to Faith Pease and the staff at TownePlace Suites for their commitment to community. Faith attends every Chamber luncheon, explores local businesses and finds ways to highlight Tehachapi at the hotel. Most recently,...

  • Who benefits from a trust?

    Diana Wade, LDA|Apr 13, 2024

If you are reading this article, I am assuming you are at least thinking about an estate plan. So, let’s continue! What are the benefits of a living trust? A trust does not get filed with the court. A will does. Transferring your biggest assets into a trust makes it a whole lot easier for your heirs – I should say kids – to manage your assets upon your death. The person you name as the successor trustee can manage your assets if you become incapacitated. It can also be highly customized to fit y...

  • Tehachapi, a music hot spot

    Mark La Ciura, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

The benefits of learning music are well documented for kids and older folks alike. I found this out going to my daughter's music concerts as she was growing up. Sarah J's instrument was the Alto Saxophone. I saw the benefits in her and all the kids that were playing in her jazz band and marching band. I also found out it does not matter if you are super talented or just have a love for playing and never had the time. I was very inspired by my daughter Sarah J to take up a instrument back then....

  • Where there's talent, there's hope and thanks!

    Anne Marie Novinger, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

Two years ago, I needed to restore a badly damaged rental house in Tehachapi in order to sell it. I decided to contact the Mountain Group at Coldwell Banker for help. The three realtors in this group, Annie Mulkins, Sue Chandler and Nicole Nicely, were skilled and knowledgeable. They also went above and beyond for me in many ways. One example was that when I was ill they watered the rose bush and shrubs at the house. They showed a real gift in referring me to many sub-contractors who could...

  • What's Up in Bear Valley Springs?

    Linda Coverdale, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

One thing this community offers in abundance is dance opportunities. On Wednesday and Sunday evenings in the Oak Branch Saloon, line dancing takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. The beauty of line dancing is that you do not need a partner. You can just get out on the floor and dance. And dancing is good for the brain. Sunday nights are for more advanced dances. Wednesdays, on the other hand, some instruction is involved if you come across a dance you don’t know, or if you are just beginning. Swing dancing appeals to many. It does require a partner, a...

  • Beaver on floats in Hawaii

    Cathy Hansen, contributing writer|Apr 13, 2024

In June of 2003, my husband Al and I attended a National Navy League Convention in Hawaii and had a great time flying around the Island of Ohua in a DeHavilland Beaver (DHC-2) on floats. We received some funny looks from people when we asked where we could find the "Beaver on Floats," but decided to look for ourselves on Lagoon Drive next to Honolulu International Airport. My first comment when we met the folks in the office next to the dock was, "This airplane looks like she belongs in...
