  • Ken Harney says...

    Tammy Engel, Mortgage Advisor|Apr 29, 2017

Kenneth Harney is a nationally-syndicated columnist on real estate for the Washington Post Writers Group. Here’s his March 29 post about credit scores. When is your “credit score” irrelevant in buying a house or refinancing a home loan? A new federal legal settlement with a major credit bureau has the answer: The only score that matters is the one your lender uses to evaluate you, not some random score you got on a website. All the others you might buy or see — there are dozens of them hawked...

  • Another day, another colonoscopy

    Mel White|Apr 29, 2017

I had my first colonoscopy in 2001, I was 53 years old and my doctor thought it was a good idea. A colonoscopy is a routine, preventative procedure that involves a tube with a camera being slid up the rectum so the doctor can get a good look at innards like the colon. But while it does sound gruesome, it can also be a lifesaver (discovering colon cancer early makes it treatable) and the magic age of 50 is the point at which everyone should get checked. I didn’t know anything about c...

  • How to get rid of acne

Donita White, Licensed Esthetician and Acne Specialist|Apr 29, 2017

You can't cure acne but you can have clear skin if you know what you are doing. There are a few key concepts that you need to know to get your skin clear and get rid of acne. 1. You need to use the right acne products for your type of acne. A product that is good for inflamed acne (pimples, pustules and cysts) will not be good for non-inflamed acne (blackheads and whiteheads). 2. You need these products to be strong enough for your type of skin. If they are not, your skin will not change much....

  • No partiality?

    Nancy Bacon, Reverend|Apr 29, 2017

In the bible, Peter states that God "shows no partiality" to one group of people over another (Acts 10:34). God is not partial to Jews over Gentiles or Americans over Somalians. I wonder how God feels about nationalism and other favoritisms... When I read Peter's statement, I think of a slogan used by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Melinda's explanation of it: " 'All lives have equal value' is not just a principle, it's a strategy...if you're not moving toward equality, you're not rea...

  • April Chamber luncheon

    Pat Doody|Apr 29, 2017

Assemblyman Vince Fong spoke in absentia at the April Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Fong, who was called out of town, phoned in his update on the new California gas tax and other issues in Sacramento. Only in the Assembly for three months, Fong found himself Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee. The gas tax issue was just "pure raw politics" said Fong; a vote being taken only when they were sure they had the votes for passage. The 12 cent a gallon tax, which goes into effect on Nov. 1, wil...

  • Measuring risk – Part 2

Jennifer Williams, President J. Williams Personal Financial Planning|Apr 29, 2017

Determine your investment time horizon The period of time for which you plan to stay invested in a particular vehicle is referred to as your investment planning time horizon. Generally speaking, the longer your time horizon, the more you can afford to invest more aggressively, in higher-risk investments. This is because the longer you can remain invested, the more time you’ll have to ride out fluctuations in the hope of getting a greater reward in the future. Of course, there is no assurance t...

Technology advances everyday making yesterday’s methods of doing business obsolete, or is it? Communication is the key to successful relationships in both our personal and business lives.
