About 150 people attended the first of four public meetings held by Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District on May 3 at the Aspen Builders, Inc. Activity Center. The meeting was to explore community priorities should the district decide to invest in a new recreation facility. "However, you first need to take care of what you have," said TVRPD General Manager Michelle Vance, assuring everyone that upgrading existing facilities would be the first priority. She said that the area has...
After closed session deliberations, following the nearly three and a half hour May 8 School Board meeting, the Tehachapi School Board unanimously chose JMS Principal Paul Kaminski to serve as the Interim Superintendent for the District. The Board listened to presentations from three search organizations that specialize in locating school superintendent candidates, but were unable to make a clear choice at that time, nor could they agree on whether to start the search immediately or wait for a...

I admit it, I'm not real big on housework. I do it as little of it as possible. Okay, okay, really, I HATE HOUSEWORK! But houses need work, and every now and then I find I have to do some (more) cleaning. I really identify with the saying "I dusted once and the dust came back; I'm not falling for that again!" and I try to put it off as long as possible...and usually until I'm expecting company. In fact, I wonder if my house would ever really get cleaned at all if no one ever came over. Probably...
Doug Clipperton, Mojave Chamber of Commerce President, has shared some exciting war stories about his father, Eldred N. Clipperton, U. S. Army Air Corps B-17 pilot. Recently, Doug's brother came across a hand-written list of 31 missions flown by their father, from February to March 1945. The missions were on an almost daily basis over targets in Germany. Lt. Clipperton served in the 100th Bomb Group, of the mighty Eighth Air Force, based at Thorpe Abbotts Air Base in England. Remarkably, Doug's...
They come in all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Mothers, of course. I had half-a-dozen children and each one has always managed to make me glad, sad, proud, amazed and completely baffled at times. That's not counting all the times you worry about them. There is an invisible worry clause in every birth certificate. They always call me on Mother's Day though, and that makes everything OK. My grandmother, Minnie Anderson, had three sons serving "Over There" in World War I. Her son, my Uncle Ray,...

I walk the ranch every morning and every night just to check and make sure all is well with the critters. It is a peaceful time and I enjoy the quiet to just visit with my friends, the animals. This morning baby rabbits were scampering everywhere and it reminded me that it is that time of the year: The time when little ones are everywhere and I start getting phone calls, and this year is shaping up to be busier than usual based on the abundance of forage as a result of the rains. At Windswept...
"May the Fourth be with You", the Star Wars extravaganza at the Tehachapi Branch Library on Friday, May 4 was a smashing hit. Attendees dressed up in their favorite Star Wars gear and participated in fun activities for kids, teens and adults, including playing with Jabba slime, making Yoda ears, testing their knowledge with trivia, making light saber dipped pretzel rods, and a scavenger hunt throughout the library. Bounty Hunters from the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club paid a visit, and found...
