I was looking out at the crazy winds, having their way with everything in their path, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a large brown something twisting around. It could have been just the wind whipping free a banner attached to the baseball fencing behind home plate. But I have to say, my first impression was a dragon. It honestly looked like a dragon. Not a big one – rather small in size, but a dragon nonetheless. With a large enough wing span to be mighty and some spiky things on its b...

The Tehachapi Cancer Foundation recently hosted its annual fundraiser, Screw Cancer 5 "Staying Alive," at Dorner's Family Vineyard for the second consecutive year. It was heartwarming to see several cancer "warriors" in attendance, reminding us why we do what we do. The event featured a flowing...

After starting a packet of Zinnia seeds, they grew into the most beautiful, vibrant colors, and Jacki Head, dreamer and owner of Old Town Flower Farm, wanted to share them. She started giving away flowers from her garden and, unbeknownst to her, she was healing ... one bouquet at a time. It was then that she knew sharing the beauty and joy of flowers was her purpose, and Old Town Flower Farm was born. This season at the Farmers Market, they are offering Tehachapi grown cut flowers, seeds,...
Congratulations are in order! The Desert Rose Garden Club of California City received an unexpected award. The statewide, California Garden Club Inc., recognized the DRGC with a Blue Ribbon Certificate of Achievement. Since restoring Cal the Tortoise and landscaping the Kiosk, the DRGC has also recorded 1128.35 volunteer hours and $1,938.89 of in-kind donations. A lot of consideration, strategy and work has gone into improving our city, but no one "thunk" about the reach it would get. Much more...

It was one of the hottest days in June to date when we set out one midmorning for a fun day of friendship and discovery. It only took us about an hour to get there – the mall is located south of B...
