    The Tehachapi Lions Club honored WWII Veteran and fellow Lion, Blas Hernandez, at their 2nd Backyard Summer Meeting on July 16th pictured with Club President Suzanne Williams. Blas has the distinct privilege of joining Honor Flight of Kern County for their WWII Veteran Flight in the Fall. Blas was a coxswain in the U.S. Navy on the USS Amsterdam and was being prepared for the invasion of Japan. The Lions thank Blas for his service and look forward to his upcoming adventure....

    Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District General Manager, Matt Young, announced his resignation from the district at the July district meeting. He will be leaving on August 28 to take the position of Assistant Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Young said that he had actually received the final offer for the position the day before the district meeting. Gulf Shores, located on the Gulf of Mexico, is a well know recreation and tourist area.   • Tehachapi Police Explorers receive a Certificate of Recognition

    The Tehachapi Police Explorers each received a Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Susan Wiggins at the July 20 City Council Meeting. The group was founded shortly after the formation of the Tehachapi Police Department in July of 2007 and consists of highly motivated kids between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement.     Reserve Lieutenant Darrell Brown was sworn in by Mayor Susan Wiggins during the City Council meeting. Brown, who retired after 29 years as a sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, has been a Tehachapi resident for 10 years. Over the years he has specialized in community relations, crime prevention, disaster, preparedness, media relations and volunteer programs.
