Computers are tools. We don’t need to know very much about our computer to check our email, play a quick game of Solitaire, or order ourselves a little something. Tehachapi’s Old Pioneer Cemetery, originally called the Shields Cemetery, was established in 1858 just a few years after early settlers came to the Tehachapi area. Men who were “shot in a gunfight” or “died of infected bowels” are buried there as well as many infants who perished under harsh conditions. Everyday people who were the back bone of a budding community that would become Tehachapi found a resting place on a barren acre, in what is now Golden Hills. The Tehachapi Heritage League will sponsor a Day of the Dead Festival on October 2...

Pictures and caption by Kristen Arnecke, Director of Good Shepherd Preschool On Friday evening, Sept. 9, we pulled into our driveway on Horsethief Dr. in Stallion Springs ready to begin our weekend. At the top of the driveway, fighting over a dead squirrel were three magnificent condors. We drove right up to them and although they were aware of the car, they weren't the least bit startled or scared. All three were tagged - #66, #40, #79. We sat and watched these beautiful creatures for a while....

I hate them. Here at the ranch they happen. There are times when no matter how hard you try, how much you spend, in the end, you must say goodbye. Over the past few years, I have embraced and let go of so many animals I loved that it seemed fitting to remember them in this, my last article of the season. For those of you who honor me by following these articles, some of these critters may sound familiar. Walter, the dromedary camel came to the ranch so full of parasites, he was literally dying....
Part 1: Sometimes Disappointment Turns into Delight It's hard to believe that the Friends of the Norbertine Canonesses could top last year's dinner/auction, but they did in spades. This was in large part due to the influence of prayer and the effect that the witness of deeply devout cloistered sisters and their confrere priests are beginning to have on certain individuals in of all places – Hollywood. The end result for the guests of the Second Annual "A Night in the Vineyard" on August 27, 2...
