There hangs on my wall among an assortment of family photos a photo of a fine looking lady. Her dress style would put her at the turn of the twentieth century, that is to say, in or near about 1890 or 1900. I have no idea who she might be but she has been a guest on my family tree photo wall for "nigh on" forty-three years. My eldest son drove in from Bakersfield one day in 1976. He had driven down to Edison Highway to check out some of the junk shops that used to line the highway. He'd been...
Power Outage General Manager, David Aranda, commented on the outage. He said, "While I understand the need to protect against wildfires, it appears that SCE totally abandoned their responsibilities during the 36 plus hours Stallion was without power. Thankfully, the district and staff at Stallion Springs CSD did not abandon our responsibilities. Chief Gary Crowell worked tirelessly in seeing that people with medical conditions could be cared for by staying in touch with Kern County EOC and...

On Oct. 18-19 a Warrior Weekend full of activities for Tehachapi High School Homecoming included a parade, complete with a flyover by two Naval jets (an F18 and E18), a football game and, of course, the dance. The Warriors won their game over Golden Valley, 28-6....
Members of Tehachapi Chapter #188, Order of the Eastern Star, recently got together and made 108 Port Pals. There have been many distributed in the area already to Cancer Centers, City of Hope and doctors offices. Our goal is to find homes for at least 50 a month. If you are interested, or need a Port Pal, please contact...
At the end of the last book review I promised you “bumps in the night,” completely thinking I could do what a good reviewer needs to do, read a rash of scary ghost ridden books for the Halloween October review. However, I chickened out. I live alone and it seemed unwise to fill my mind with such scares, so I did the next best thing. I thought of every scary book I have ever read in the past. The first that came to mind was the classic “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving. Written...
Start at the beginning. For Part 1 click HERE It is said all good things must come to an end. I want to thank those who contributed to our experiment with a newspaper serial that invited the community to contribute. It was a lot of fun seeing the original premise in the Valley of Light moving forward. Did the valley remind you of home? Have you yourself seen weird lights in the skies, in our mountains, in the desert? Have you found explanations for them? I’m sure our serial did not answer all t...
Tehachapi's Rotary Club heard from the Bear Valley Springs Tailwaggers Dog Club when several of their members and their well behaved furry friends visited during lunch. The group explained their association with the national program Alliance Therapy Dogs. Tailwaggers President Molly Macklin and her associates said the group will soon be licensed to become patient visitors at Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley Hospital. They will also be starting a reading program at the Whiting Center in Bear...
The Friends of the Tehachapi Library just finished up their last big book sale of the year and once again the folks of Tehachapi have shown their generosity. Since the sale was during the Apple Festival, some of that generosity came from visitors, but we know that a great deal of the sales were to locals. And just how much came in? The total was $1,845. In addition, The Loop newspaper donated $250 from their pie baking contest fundraiser to the Friends of the Library. All this is money that...
