    Mark La Ciura|Oct 28, 2017

I have been around the sport of drag racing all my life and that is the reason why am a photographer. I got to see some of the cars I saw in the late 1970s at Famaso Raceway in Bakersfield on Oct. 20-22 at the 26th Annual Hot Rod Reunion. This sport gets in the blood for most car buffs and it sure did for me. • P-47 Thunderbolt!

    Cathy Hansen|Oct 28, 2017

This photo was taken at Mojave Airport nearly twenty-two years ago. Alan Preston was taxiing a Republic P-47 into one of the original hangars built by the Marines in 1942. The Santa Monica Museum of Flying used to have a maintenance and restoration facility here at Mojave Air & Spaceport and Bruce Lockwood managed all aspects of the business and even flew the rare warbirds that temporarily lived here. There is something special about standing near an airplane with a big Pratt & Whitney R-2800...
