Last week, I had the chance to reconnect with my friend Kimberly Karver, and it was magical. We first met on MasterChef Generations, both earning our white MasterChef aprons and representing Team Gen X. Fun fact: we were two of the shortest competitors in the kitchen, standing side-by-side, two GenX "BFFs" with our own unique stories. Over the course of the competition, and even more so over the past year, we have discovered how much we share in common during our exchange of letters and video...

All my life I've celebrated Christmas in one way or another, even though a lifetime of changing circumstances has also periodically necessitated changes in beloved holiday traditions. This year will be no exception – a welcome low-key day awaits me – although over the years I've also expanded my own personal celebrations to include more than one holiday. You see, through the years, thanks to a curiosity instilled in me long ago by my mother, I've learned about a number of other holidays dur...

Have you ever noticed that really good things live on and on in the hearts of men, while bad things, though hard to live through, eventually crumble from within and fall away? Regimes that demoralize humanity come and go. Darkness is overpowered by light. Humans write those stories so they can be passed down through generations and be remembered, both historical and fiction. A small baby is born, laid in a manger and 2,000 plus years later, we still celebrate that birthday and a life unmeasured...
We got to hear many holiday favorites during the annual TPOPs Sing-along Concert on Dec. 15. The performance featured the TPOPs community orchestra, many special guests and us, as the audience got to sing-along with all these great Christmas carols and seasons greetings songs. The fantastic conductors were Amy Rodriguez and James Peck with special guest singer Michelle Fulton and all her children helping out on vocals. Robby Martinez and Terri Asher also blessed us with Christmas songs, and...
I just came across a photo of our community water tank from years past; the caption at the bottom says, circa 1914. Circa is a way of saying, "about" or "approximately," or " darned if I know!" Close enough. It's from the Ed Wiggins collection and were it not for Ed's saved photos, Tehachapi's pictorial history would be sadly lacking. He was the ancestor of Tehachapi's pioneer Wiggins family. He took many, many pictures but did not take this picture of the water tower since Ed and my brother, Ev...
