I love the work that I do. I have made many friends here in Tehachapi since I started my business in 2001. That is when I moved up here and met Ted Kitzmiller. Ted was the owner of Radio Shack in Old Town. Chelley, his wife, was taking a picture editing class from me and said that her husband needed some computer services at his store. When I met Ted, he showed me the trouble he was having and I took care of them for him. We struck up a conversation about my background in the IT field and asked...

The holiday season, synonymous with warmth and joy, often sees the emergence of a concerning trend – the impulse to gift pets. While the notion of surprising a loved one with a furry friend might seem heartwarming, the reality is far more complex. Pets are not mere presents; they are long-term commitments that demand dedication, responsibility and unwavering care. This is one of the reasons Have a Heart Humane Society will not approve an adoption, if the owner to the rescue being adopted is n...

Every day, in the United States, more than 70,000 puppies and kittens make their debut in the world. This staggering statistic, while invoking heartwarming mental images of cute pets, comes with a somber truth - overpopulation. It's this overpopulation crisis that leads to the unfortunate reality of over 3.7 million animals being euthanized in shelters across the country each year. Kern County Animal Services euthanized 801 dogs and 521 cats last year alone. Female cats can be quite prolific,...

Many shelters are full clear across our great country. There is no more space, and pets, especially dogs, are being euthanized daily. People are giving up their dogs due to housing problems, lack of funds, lack of time for pets and to family growth. Sometimes a new child means the pet has to go. There are no adopters, rescues are feeling hopeless and shelters must put the dogs to sleep. You are the only hope your dog has. On a typical day, an organization like Have A Heart Humane Society receives a minimum of seven phone calls asking if we can...
