Larry Trapp served in Vietnam as an air traffic controller, and during breaks he had time to think. He thought about his high school years and how he enjoyed classes at Bakersfield High School. The family members and many friends of Christopher Edward Esten, 74, are mourning his unexpected passing on Sept. 13 in Tehachapi from cardiac arrest. The Errea House garden is officially back on the job. On May 28 a dedication ceremony was held where the garden's story was told and thanks were given to those who helped bring the garden to life. When the volunteers at the Tehachapi Heritage League organization learned that property where the former garden was planted was purchased and would be used commercially, they didn't know what they would do. The runners are off on the start of this year's Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot 5K Run. This is the first time it has been held at Brite Lake. The fastest three male and female runners received a fresh donated turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. Imagine 3,000 years ago, during the warmer months, a gathering of Kawaiisu families (or Nüwa people, as they call themselves) on a rocky mountaintop shaded by large oaks overlooking a beautiful valley.
