On Jan. 16, the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce held their first monthly luncheon of the year in the American Legion Hall. This month featured a nonprofits showcase, where local nonprofits set up booths around the perimeter of the room for luncheon attendees to visit before availing themselves of a delicious catered meal from Red House BBQ. Approximately 20 years ago, the Rotary Club began its Senior Luncheon program in December, serving residents a full holiday meal, which included turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, dinner rolls, drinks and pumpkin pie. On Thursday, Oct. 12, Cheers to Charity handed out checks totaling $65,500 to local nonprofit organizations. What began in 2014 as a small fundraiser in a parking lot, has grown into the most anticipated community fundraiser of the year. The Cheers team funded 11 nonprofits with grants ranging from $2,000 to $15,000.
