On Earth Day, April 22, Girl Scout Troop 3383 along with their leader Kendra Mauldin and Lehigh Cement CEO Craig Miflin planted a young Raywood Ash tree in Philip Marx Central Park. The tree is the first of at least seven trees that will be replacing dead and dying trees that are scheduled to be removed from the park. August 27, Hall Ambulance Service donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District, for use at the Dye Natatorium Pool. Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District General Manager, Matt Young, announced his resignation from the district at the July district meeting. He will be leaving on August 28 to take the position of Assistant Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs in Gulf Shores, Alabama. With the annual Brite Lake Fishing Derby scheduled for April 18, the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District sought out the restocking of Brite Lake with fish that make fishing exciting. Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks Department (TVRPD) is still in talks with Lehigh working on a land lease agreement, so that the developing Mountain Bike Park can be considered public land. Once this is done, the area should be available to the public. Luckily talks are starting to wind down, and an official announcement can be expected within the next month or two.
