  • Memorial Day and Memories

    Mary Clyde, Wordsmith|May 10, 2014

Your writer remembers (years ago) when Memorial Day (before it became just another three-day weekend celebrated on the last Monday in May rather than May 30 as it had been for years) was set aside for special events and services honoring our various branches of military who had died. It was a big deal. In more recent times it seems that we just get too busy to remember what Memorial Day really is all about. But, if you ask someone who has served their country, it still is a big deal to honor the...

  • Tenkara Style Fishing

    Craig R Stockton, Owner of Treasures eConsignment|Apr 12, 2014

I would like to talk about fly-fishing, however not western fly-fishing but the Japanese style known as Tenkara. I gave a brief description of this style in an earlier article, but now I would like to expand on the topic. Tenkara is the modern version of the earliest known style of fly-fishing. Although the Japanese did not invent fly-fishing, similar styles of “rod-line-fly” fishing have existed in Europe – and probably throughout much of the world for centuries. What is different is that...

  • Spring/Summer Surf Fishing

    Craig R Stockton, Owner of Treasures eConsignment|Mar 15, 2014

There are fewer environments that are tougher to handle than the pounding surf, so you may ask why subject yourself to such a beating? Surf perch, croaker and halibut are but a few of the reasons. With spring and summer around the corner, the big female perch are cruising the beach ready to release their young. Surf perch on average run arou...
