The Tehachapi Arts Commission will kick off their third nationally recognized art show in mid-May when 50 artists from across the country will visit Tehachapi to begin paintings that will be juried into Art 2023 Tehachapi. The show will be held at the Aspen Builders Community Center on the weekend of July 21-23. At the TUSD September board meeting, a decision was made to create a facilities committee based on the issues brought forward by Corey Costelloe from THS Boosters and requested by board member Napier. Tehachapi blood donors responded on Sept. 7 with the strongest turnout we've had in the three years of coordinating blood drives with our community partners. 90 people registered to donate blood, 10 of those were first time donors including a 16-year-old who came out with her mother. COVID-19 has interrupted a lot of plans the past couple of years. The Fishing Derby that usually takes place at Brite Lake has again been cancelled this year. But that hasn't stopped Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Parks District (TVRPD) from providing citizens with events that ensure a good time. This year, Free Fish Day replaced the Fishing Derby. On May 16, the City of Tehachapi, Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District (TVRPD), Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District (TVHD) and Houchin Community Blood Bank (HCBB) worked together for what turned out to be the largest turnout for a community blood drive this year. Kristel Pollock from HCCB provided the results for the blood drive and this one tied the largest turnout by the Tehachapi community with 54 total donors. A windy overcast day would not deter these children and their need to find eggs. The egg hunt took place at West Park on April 16, the Saturday before Easter. Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Parks District sectioned off four separate pens where the Easter Bunny had scattered eggs the night before. These would soon become arenas for battle.
