The Stallion Springs CERT Team held a Roundup and Appreciation Pancake Breakfast on April 23 in the Corral Room at the Community Center. Third time's the charm. The Cleanup Day originally scheduled for February was canceled due to snow and moved to March 5. It was canceled again in March due to the treat of snow and rescheduled for April 9. Finally the stars were with us and April 9 was a winner. Before the completion of Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley hospital, interim-President David Eastman appointed the Art of Healing Committee to secure works of art to be placed throughout the hospital. Artwork has been proven over and over again to be beneficial in the healing of hospital patients. Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2022 Annual Brite Lake Fishing Derby. TVRPD had planned to hold the event this spring. The event was originally pushed back from April to May due to the water allocation levels. Since January, staff has been aggressively reaching out to several hatcheries across the state and have been unable to secure an adequate amount of worthy sized fish sufficient enough for a derby. Per Capita grants have been approved for both Horsethief and Man O'War Parks. The CSD staff is looking forward to starting these projects to better our parks for the community. Projects planned for use of the grant include aerating the lake, new tables, benches and playgrounds at both parks. Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District is in desperate need of lifeguards for the upcoming pool season. The Pool season is slated to open the first week of April, however, at this time TVRPD only has one returning guard able to work. TVRPD needs a minimum of 10 guards in order to open the pool with a limited schedule. On Dec. 20, 2021, representatives of the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District and the City of Tehachapi were joined by members of the Chamber of Commerce to cut the ribbon for the new Ollie Mountain Sports Park located at 410 W. On Tuesday evening October 18, the Board of Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District voted not to have a 2022 Tehachapi GranFondo. The September 21, Houchin Community Blood Bank mobile blood drive was the 25th blood drive held in the Tehachapi area since the COVID-19 lockdown began. Over the past 18 months approximately 850 pints of blood have been donated in Tehachapi, with many residents having donated multiple times. Effective Aug. 8 the Dye Natatorium pool has been closed due to a lack of staff. We did our best to keep it open as long as we could and are saddened to have to cut our pool season short.
