Here in Tehachapi, we have a wealth of informative retired folks from the military, many of which worked at Edwards AFB Flight Test Center. So I think this would be of interest to friends and family of these service men and women to see this "Peace Keeper" aircraft. Many I bet worked on jets, maybe flew jets in the military. This historic aircraft is on display just east on highway 58, about 60 miles from Tehachapi at the north gate of Edwards AFB. I was a freelance photographer for a few years...

There are so many books on King, written for all ages and all kinds of readers. The book I enjoy the most is the illustrated picture book "I Have a Dream" with its simplicity and vibrant art embracing the spirit of King's speech and giving weight and purpose to each one of...

Winter time is a great season to make the pretty scenic trek up Highway 395 to the Father Crowley monument and overlook. Another new year is upon us. And I'm meeting this new year once again with mixed feelings and emotions. In many ways 2023 was difficult, and in many ways it was a great year, and all things considered I'm ready for it to end and another new one to begin, I've always loved new beginnings, and the start of a brand new year is always a good one as far as I'm concerned. It's as if when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve, everything changes; possibilities are endless. Everything old is new...

I can't remember not having some kind of snowfall before or right after Thanksgiving in Tehachapi. Yet, here I sit writing this review a few days before New Years, without a flake in sight. What is up with that? It is totally possible that between the time I submit my book review and the actual printing and physical delivery of the paper, snow will have fallen. But then again, it may not. I am prepared with either outcome as I have books filled with snow. Timeless picture books have introduced c...

"I was born in a tent – people called them 'canvas cabins' back there – in 1916 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. My Dad made moonshine whiskey to sell for cash money to help feed us. I helped make moonshine from the time I was big enough to carry a one-gallon bucket. Practically all the country people back there made whiskey. You could look around early in the morning and see smoke rising from all the stills scattered in the woods." – Ellis "Red" Farley Red Farley owned "Farley's Funny Farm" on Tehac...
“I drove the Grapevine (now Interstate 5) through the Tehachapi Mountains in 1925, hauling freight in a 1922 Packard four cylinder truck. There would be two drivers and the round trip between Los Angeles and Tulare took 48 hours. The first driver got paid $32.50 and the second made $27.50. The first one made more because he was in charge and had to make all of the collections. There was a place called Caswell’s Garage at the head of the Antelope Valley, and I guess they got tired of people mar...
