As Stray Leaves joins the festive season alongside Downtown Tehachapi for the first time, a few fun things have been happening around the tasting room, located at 123 S. Green St., Tehachapi. It was so exciting to see a lot of you during the Tehachapi Hometown Christmas activities, inside the tasting room and alongside the parade route! Cliff Meridth, our owner, joined the march down F Street in a horse drawn wagon! His two horses, Juliette and Isabell, did a great job pulling the lit-up wine...
When I was a kid, I thought everyone celebrated Christmas the way my family did: we each opened one present from out of the immediate family on Christmas Eve, saving everything else for Christmas morning. Christmas morning (usually very early, much to my parents' chagrin) we discovered what Santa had brought, then we all got to check out the goodies in our stockings. Breakfast was next, and then we sat in a circle opening presents, one person/one present at a time. Especially as a child, it was...
If there's ever a time of year when people are in danger of burn out, it's during the holiday season. As a small business owner, burn out is something that has plagued me pretty much every season. It's only since I was diagnosed as having ADHD that I became aware of my pattern of "being on fire" for weeks at a time and then suddenly feeling completely burned out and unable to function at all for days or weeks. This pattern of being on fire then burning out was taking its toll on my mental and ph...

A few months ago, a gentleman from the Tehachapi Amatuer Radio Club stopped into the Chamber and asked for information about joining. I was intrigued by ham radio and in no time, I was signing myself up to learn all about it, scheduling the test to talk on the radio and have a chance to hear from an astronaut. In this edition of Chamber Chat, I have the privilege to share a few words from this local non-profit about ham radio and why it's so important. The following was submitted by Micah...

The calendar year is closing out and there were several moments and accomplishments in the local sports scene to brag about in 2023. I will start at the 10,000-foot level with facility improvements for our Tehachapi High School student athletes. What started due to some frankly embarrassing moments during the 2022 fall season led to local advocacy led by the Warrior Booster Club to bring our facilities up to competitive standards. Thankfully, the Tehachapi Unified School District agreed, and...
I moved to Tehachapi in 2006 after retiring from the fast-paced, travel-heavy corporate IT world. It turned out I wasn't ready to retire, so in 2007, I started Tech-Hachapi and began helping people in the greater Tehachapi area with their technical challenges. My first client was from my ad on Craigslist, of all places. In the last 16-plus years, I've had the distinct pleasure of working with families young and old, horse rescues, ranchers, wineries, machine shop owners, aircraft engine shops,...

The Tehachapi Symphony Holiday Concert at Country Oaks Baptist Church was fantastic, as always. It was a very chilly night on Dec. 8, but the cool weather put us all in the Christmas spirit. The highlight for me was "A Cello Christmas," with music arranged by Helen Newby, a world class cello player based in Brooklyn, New York and the daughter of the David Newby the Music director of the Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra. The Christmas music arranged by Helen Newby was all the favorites for kids of...
