June is Pride Month, a month-long focus on LGBTQ+ pride and history and celebrations. Some people wonder why a Pride Month is necessary today, but I think those people must not be paying attention. Sure, we've come a long way as far as equal rights and acceptance are concerned, but we have a long way yet to go. Just read any comments on social media when someone mentions something about being gay or trans – there is still a lot of hate and bigotry in the world, even right here in our little c...

Tehachapi tends to enchant visitors and inspire them to call this mountain town home. For Jessica Jones and her family, Tehachapi ignited a passion that has burned for more than three decades. Jessica's grandparents, Don and Carrol Jones, built a ranch in 1989 on Jack Springs Road and lovingly dubbed it "Old Fart Ranch." Don stayed busy constructing buildings in Tehachapi, such as Mountain Bible Church. Jessica spent her childhood tending to horses, chasing hogs and picking apples. Some of her...
Brite Creek Farm's journey began when owner Hannah Shipman was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which caused joint pain and limited movement. The Shipman family decided to pursue nutritional and holistic methods of treatment. This led to a revelation. After their success, Brite Creek Farm was born and offers grass-fed beef, pastured chicken and fresh vegetables including...
Bits of degraded plastic have been discovered in the kidneys, liver and lungs of humans. Smaller nanoplastics are even more dangerous because they can get into the blood via the lungs. Once in the blood, these particles can circulate in the body and cross the blood-brain barrier. Plastic debris in the central nervous system raises questions about the potential impact on brain function, including memory and behavior, as well as microplastic's influence on diseases such as Alzheimer's. While it's...

I remember moving to Tehachapi in 1989. It was a dream move, going from my 45-minute commute on Highway 101 to a 10-minute drive on Valley Blvd. It wasn't easy at first, I remember working four jobs, selling real estate at Century 21, doing a once-a-week radio show, going out on the speakers tour twice a week with a book I had just written, all while I was trying to get my insurance business up and running. But Tehachapi was great to me. It fit me like a glove. I raised three of my four kids...

It all started Thanksgiving 2021 with the creation of baked treat boxes for the family to take for the drive home. We are still sewing little girl dresses to give away to the world's less fortunate girls. Fortunately, during my visit to the Philippines this year in May, I was able to meet the recipients of our dresses personally. To see the excitement, happiness and gratitude...
