    The Tehachapi Museum first opened on July 4, 1973 in a small building on Tehachapi Boulevard. The building, which was later torn down, was used by the Chamber of Commerce and rented to the Heritage League. On Jan. 1, 1982, during a snow storm, the Tehachapi Museum moved to its present location, which was the former Kern County Tehachapi Branch Library. Oscar was born in Zap, North Dakota on July 24, 1930, to Jacob and Doris Schnaidt. Oscar was a Korean War Veteran, serving as an airborne ranger in the Army 187th Airborne RTC.
