From the same team that brought you the hilarious comedy "Red Velvet Cake Wars", comes the new TCT comedy production of "Christmas Belles", playing this holiday season. A church Christmas program spins hilariously out of control in this southern farce about squabbling sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. It's Christmas-time in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters are not exactly in a festive mood. But in true Futrelle...

It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I’m sure we can all think of organizations and groups, and even individuals that have done terrible things with the best of intentions. On the other hand, I’m not sure where the road paved with donuts goes, but it isn’t hell. Every year in the United States we have National Donut Day on the first Friday in June (June 5, this year). Often this is celebrated by eating an (often free) donut, but the origin of donut day goes back to th...

I left you in the early days of the Twentieth Century in “nineteen ‘aught’ nine.” That’s the way the old timers said those early years. They called zeroes “aughts” in those days. Sometimes “naughts” too. 1909 - The City of Los Angeles Cement Company was established four miles east of Tehachapi. An aqueduct was needed to provide Los Angeles with water from the Owens Valley. They closed the plant down after the project was finished. For a time it produced Potash; not to make cement again unti...

They've just packed up all of their belongings and driven halfway across the country, to start a new life together, in Chicago. Their moving day doesn't go exactly as planned and things become slightly more com...
I was thumbing through a little book I put together a few years back which contains a collection of stories and found one my granddaughter wrote about growing up in our town. I am sure she won't mind if I share a few of her memories. She attended the same grammar school (Wells) and High School (good old T.H.S.) that I did and played in the same park. Just in a different time frame. The House On D Street by Jacque Gracey Whinery Growing up in Tehachapi was a wonderful experience. Some of my...

Tehachapi Community Theatre is in Rehearsal for Sylvia, opening Friday, Jan. 30. In Pete Gurney's 1995 comic masterpiece Sylvia, he wrote about a dog who totally seduces the attentions and affection of a hard working, middle class husband, in one howler of a play. Some may dismiss this glorious evening of nonstop laughs as lightweight entertainment, but beneath all the fun is Gurney's usual focus on the fantasies and foibles of middle class life. "I consider this play to be a variation on the...
