Lancaster native Tony Schoen began working as a financial controller in the nascent wind industry in 1988 and rode the boom-and-bust roller coaster until he retired from that business in 2004. The Rotary Club of Tehachapi has had a busy spring with several fundraising events, and we’ve also designated funds towards highly cherished projects. Honor Flights is a program to recognize the service of veterans of World War II and the Korean War. Rick Zanuto says they deserve recognition because they sacrificed their innocence and their youth to fight for their country. He spoke recently to the Kiwanis Club and described the experiences he has accompanying veterans on these flights. Renaissance Fairs have become popular events and are held in various places, but the original one began years ago in Topanga Canyon, Calif. Jonathan Hall explained the history and development of the fairs when he recently spoke to Tehachapi Kiwanis members. Hall has been participating in Renaissance Fairs for over 30 years. To prepare for the event he spends four weekends in preparation where participants learn the history of the Renaissance, practice dialect, and learn roles. Scott Pitkin, the public access coordinator for Tejon Ranch, spoke to the Tehachapi Kiwanis club about the Tejon Conservancy Agreement, which was established in 2008 and signed by then Governor Schwarzenegger.
