Roman Gregory Weltin, long time Tehachapi resident, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021, after reaching the age of 80 years old. For years Roman fought various illnesses as he struggled to remain active in his family's lives. Roman died peacefully, while hospitalized from complications with COPD, with his beloved wife, Laura and daughter, Lynette by his side. Toys for Tots had another great year here in Tehachapi collecting just under 900 toys for kids in our community. Last year between our collections at Christmas and our Christmas in July, we collected over 1,200 toys. This year we were at about the same level, collecting over 300 this past July. The Tehachapi Planning Commission met on the evening of Dec. 13 at the Tehachapi Police Department Community Room to consider several projects. The only completely new project approved by the commission was a proposal by Caltrans to build a maintenance station at the intersection of Industrial Parkway and N. On Nov. 1, the Tehachapi City Council updated the rate it charges developers for water rights. Since 2007 the Tehachapi Municipal Code has provided a fee mechanism to collect funds from new residential developments to assist in the procurement of long-term water rights. New developments can either secure their own water rights or provide an in-lieu fee to the City for the needed water. Stallion Springs held a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Tuesday, March 30 at the Community Center. CERT volunteers assisted in setting up appointments from March 22-26.
