TVWC has been busy competing in the Kern County Wrestling Association tournament schedule. The CSUB Roadrunner Bash was held April 1 at Centennial High School. There were 570 wrestlers competing in ages 5-18 in various weight classes. Planning for the 2017 Cheers to Charity fund-raising event, to be held on August 12, is underway. Aviator Park, at the Tehachapi Airport, will again be the setting for this annual fund raiser. TVWC took their biggest team yet to the Central Valley Wrestling Association Southern Section Valley competition held in Porterville Feb. 11. Twenty-five members of the squad competed to try to make the top four, which then qualifies them for the Masters tournament. Tehachapi Valley Wrestler Michael Murillo competed in the 7th Annual Cal Republic Invitational on Jan. 8 in Corcoran. Murillo received the #1 seed and proved he was worthy of it as he faced some of the best wrestlers in the Central Valley. He received a first round bye and moved to the semi-finals winning by a pin and then outscored his opponent 7-0 to earn the Champion honors. Help for local military veterans -- City Councilman Ed Grimes reports that the inaugural dinner of the Veterans Collaborative Services on Nov. 21 at Veterans Memorial Hall was a great success.
