Sadly, his father "disappeared" when Dave was a small child: "To this day, I still stay in touch with my father's family, but he passed away in his 50s a long time ago." Dave's mother never remarried but went to night school and became a bookkeeper. Dave attended public schools in India...

Nancy Piercy who lives in Tehachapi was joined by Donelle Evans who lives in Portland, Oregon. This long-distance meeting was possible because AAUW is meeting on Zoom while Covid restrictions are in effect. Both women joined the Army at an early age. Nancy was 20 years old and wanted to live overseas and see the sights and needed an income t...

I read an article a while back that described a study (a study?) about why children didn't care for the school lunches. We're talking about a carefully planned, nutritionally balanced lunch. That last sentence says it all. What kid likes a carefully planned, nutritious lunch? I remember my youngest child (now past 50) used to tell me that he always put his peas in the empty milk carton. Good place to hide peas! Of course, some kids eat the lunches and think nothing much about it. The general pop...
Dick Lawyer, one of our very good friends and a big part of Mojave Airport's flying history, passed away on November 12, 2005. It was just the month before that Dick flew Flight Systems F-100F at Mojave Airport for FTA and Jeremy Mosher of Jet Photos captured this photo. Dick's wife, Gayle, emailed to tell me that they wouldn't be able to make the Veterans Day Ceremony that year because he was going elk hunting. I received a call from their close friend and neighbor, GaIL Knight, that morning...
We have been plagued with smoke recently from the tragic fires taking place all over California. Heartfelt sympathy to all those facing tragedy and the loss of their homes. The water aerobics class has come to an end for the summer, but some determined individuals are going to continue in the pool through the fall and winter. They have been attending in-service training at the pool, so as to be familiar with taking the cover off and on, and safety rules. The Garden Club has one more meeting on the third Friday of October at 11 a.m. This will...
