On the evening of Saturday, Dec. 2, the community showed up to Downtown Tehachapi to enjoy the 17th Annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, hosted by the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce. The runners are off on the start of this year's Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot 5K Run. This is the first time it has been held at Brite Lake. The fastest three male and female runners received a fresh donated turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. This year the fastest male runners (and turkey winners) were Justin Patnananan with 18:38 minutes, followed by Alexander Patnananan with 19:26, and Jarrod Tiede with 20:57. On Oct. 15, 2017 Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley (AHTV) was the presenting sponsor for the 2017 Health & Senior Resources Fair at The Woods Pavilion. This year AHTV offered low-cost lab tests and screening services and more than 30 vendors participated, including representatives from volunteer organizations and local physicians' offices as well as a wide variety of other industries such as real estate, insurance and more. Tehachapi High School student, Grant Cowan, is seen receiving a check for $100 as Second Place Winner in the American Legion Auxiliary Department of California Americanism Essay Competition. On April 8 a fundraiser was held at Canine Creek Pet Wash and Boutique in Tehachapi in honor of local Mikayla Hart and her service dog Teddy. They were in need of a harness for Teddy to help keep Mikayla stable when she walks. Mikayla, who has had half of her brain removed, has no peripheral vision. Once a month the Tehachapi Treasure Trove hosts a painting party. Local artists provide instruction and the Trove provides snacks, drinks (soda, coffee and wine) and all the painting supplies needed to make a great painting, which is finished during the session. Tommy Baker "Tommy the Handyman" officially became a member of Tehachapi Rotary in May. He was welcomed by President Tim Trujillo and sponsor Claudia White. On May 4, the National Day of Prayer, the Kiwanis Club of Tehachapi hosted their 31st Annual Prayer Breakfast at McMullan Hall. Nearly 140 members of the community came together for breakfast and worship.
