Since its founding the Friends of the Tehachapi Depot (FOTD) have taken on the task of promoting railroad safety. Here in Tehachapi, with its many vehicle crossings and over a mile-long corridor of double railroad tracks going through the center of town, unsafe crossings by pedestrians are a common sight. In Friendship Hall of Tehachapi UCC rehearsals have begun for the Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra's spring concert. Under the baton of Musical Director and Conductor Dr. David Newby the symphony warmed up with Beethoven's Symphony #4 in B Major, Opus 60. The runners are off on the start of this year's Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot 5K Run. This is the first time it has been held at Brite Lake. The fastest three male and female runners received a fresh donated turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. On Oct. 15, 2017 Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley (AHTV) was the presenting sponsor for the 2017 Health & Senior Resources Fair at The Woods Pavilion. This year AHTV offered low-cost lab tests and screening services and more than 30 vendors participated, including representatives from volunteer organizations and local physicians' offices as well as a wide variety of other industries such as real estate, insurance and more. Tehachapi High School student, Grant Cowan, is seen receiving a check for $100 as Second Place Winner in the American Legion Auxiliary Department of California Americanism Essay Competition.
