    The Tehachapi Area Association of Realtors and the City of Tehachapi hosted a litter clean-up day Oct. 11 from 8 to 10 a.m. Despite strong winds and chilly temperatures, several community members came out to the Starbucks on Voyager Drive to remove trash and debris from the surrounding lots. The volunteers cleared out debris along Voyager Drive and Capital Hills Parkway near the Highway 58 on-ramps; in total, 13 bags of litter were collected and removed.   • Station 12 receives new firetruck

    KCFD Station 12 in Tehachapi received a brand new $1.2 million firetruck replacing their 1997 rig with close to one million miles on it. The photos show Station 12 crew in front of their new rig.     The Desert Rose Garden Club joined the Career Day hosted by The Safe Haven for Kids League. Backpacks were handed out to the kids and an ongoing game of bingo was quite fun.     On Thursday, Aug. 17, representatives from the City of Tehachapi and members of the Tehachapi Rotary Club dedicated a Peace Pole in Centennial Plaza. Rotary International is sponsoring poles all over the world this year and there are currently 50,000 of them around the world. Each location chooses eight languages to be inscribed on the pole with "May peace prevail on earth."     About 60 people were at the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum on Sunday afternoon, July 30, for a demonstration of the Bill Stokoe Signal Collection located outside of the museum.     Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District reported that this year's Fishing Derby, held May 20 at Brite Lake, brought in 579 registered anglers.
