Valley Oaks Charter High School held their 2023 Roaring '20s Prom on April 14 at Arosa Pines. The beautiful, student and staff decorated facility, large stone patio, serene pond and the lit parking provided the students with a wonderful party. At the April 3, Guild of Tehachapi meeting members were treated to a special treat. Joyce Stowers, a current volunteer, brought in a basket filled with fortune-telling, jelly bean Easter eggs. On March 15, Rosemary Powell and her family celebrated an official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Joyful Life Hypnotherapy. On Saturday, March 18 the Lady Water Warriors took the first place trophy home competing against seven teams. In the first event Davery Pogon-Cord, Regan Rodriguez, Allison George and Grace Keller won the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:06.80. Local band, Grievance, were able to perform on a very famous stage at the Whiskey a Go Go in Hollywood, California. Grievance has been together for two years and has been playing gigs at local venues during that time, but this was a huge step for them. Living in a mountain community we often forget how isolated we can become. Due to recent storm systems, Highway 58, the main way in and out of Tehachapi, has been closed off and on since Feb. 22. The Ferrari Club of America toured the Civilian Flight Test Center in Mojave, California on Feb. 18. They were greeted by a good crowd of car and airplane lovers. Every January, Triassic Vineyards sends their newest wines to the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and, every year they have come home with awards. The 2023 competition was no exception. Rio Tinto U.S. Borax held a "Coins Against Cancer" campaign to raise support for women fighting breast cancer.
