The 2nd Annual Tehachapi Holiday Decorating Contest is ready to accept entries from the community (dates changed, note below). The contest is open to both business and residential entries, and there is no cost to participate. The contest has expanded from nine winners in 2020 to 12 winners this year. The Tehachapi Arts Commission has announced Art in the Park, a project that will eventually place life-size works of art in each of Tehachapi's parks. In 2022, the Commission plans to begin the project with a donation to the new Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District Skate Park. Local sculptor Dwight Dreyer will be donating his time to design a life-size bronze statue of a young girl on a skateboard. This year the Friends of the Library are having a one day Holiday Book Sale on Friday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This sale is going to take place upstairs in the library. The sale is going to be small, but will have a large number of special books (antique, rare, coffee table, etc.) for 50% to 75% off the marked prices. At 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 members of the American Legion and Legion Riders raised the American flag in Philip Marx Central Park. The eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 was the day and time of the signing of the armistice ending World War I. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 and honors the veterans of all branches of the military. Forty-five people donated blood in Tehachapi on Tuesday, Nov. 16, bringing the total to more than 900 donors over the past 20 months. Once again, the Houchin Community Blood Bank team partnered with the Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Parks District and the City of Tehachapi for the 26th time in the past two years.
