She asked her friend that if it got too late if she would take her dog out for a walk and feed him. And, if she didn’t get back until tomorrow later in the afternoon, if she would please get her mail? The neighbor said sure but asked where she was going? The woman replied, “I’m going to a big box store and I’m sure they are going to make me use the self-check out.” We at Pioneer True Value...

Our City Clerk came across something interesting during a search of our archives last week. They were minutes from a 1935 City Council Meeting. As still is the case today, public presentations and concerns were raised. This particular concern centered on a Mr. Guthrie, who based upon a few other searches revealed he was quite the regular guest and appears in the minutes on numerous occasions during that time period. Mr. Guthrie was a local baker, and on Sept. 15, 1935 he was bringing to council...

Tehachapi has become a place of opportunity for all. We can't promise you the "American Dream" but we've certainly taken plenty of steps to make it far more attainable in our City. Last week was a great indicator of that, we celebrated the opening of several additions to the City of Tehachapi. Of course, Walmart was the most notable, releasing a pent-up demand for general merchandise and grocery shopping locally. By the turnout and the crowds at the store, I'd say Walmart's decision to come to...

My son recently graduated from TUSD. In the intervening years, there wasn’t a single day that an inescapable concern wasn’t present as he set off for school. In the event of an active shooter, and the absence of an armed Tehachapi Police School Resource Officer (SRO), who would physically protect my son until law enforcement arrives? The unsettling answer was NO ONE. As a TUSD trustee, the most important duty I have to this district is to ensure the safety of students and staff. With the exception of the presence of an SRO, this District has...
