They explained there are at least 10 cemeteries in Tehachapi and more may be discovered. Most people in Tehachapi are familiar with the East Side Cemetery and...

  • Statement from Dick Taylor

    Nov 23, 2019

Based on my 27 years running our family business, military record, experience as a county department head and knowledge of the district, I’ve been urged by many community leaders and friends to run for District 1 of the Kern County Board of Supervisors. Having first moved into the district in 1979 after my honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, I consider it a great honor to be approached to run for this office. However, after a lot of thought and research, I have decided to not seek election in March 2020 as District 1 Supervisor. My h...

The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) reduces your earned Social Security benefit. The Government Pension Offset (GPO) reduces your spouse’s Social Security benefit by 2/3 of your annuity pension. They do not apply to those under the Federal Employment Retirement System (FERS) because they paid a payroll tax to S...

    Greg Garrett, Tehachapi City Manager|Nov 23, 2019

It's certainly the holiday season as our public works team completes one of my favorite tasks, putting up the Christmas decorations Downtown. We reinvested in new decorations a year ago with LED snowflakes along with illuminated garlands adorning each Downtown light post. This year we purchased a few more for Mill Street and the new transit center so the entrance to our City off of Highway 58 and the heavily-used parking and ridesharing facility had the same dose of Christmas cheer. Thanks once...

  • AAUW will hear cemetery tales

    Phyllis Belcher|Nov 9, 2019

Cemetery Tales may be an unusual topic for American Association of University Women, but that is what is planned for the Nov. 13 meeting. However, cemeteries tell the story of the early Tehachapi region and the people who started this community where we live. Many interesting facts about cemeteries will be revealed. A few years ago, Janice Armstrong and Barbara Wood organized a group of AAUW women who were interested in history, and they began exploring local cemeteries. • Public Safety Power Shutoffs

    Greg Garrett, Tehachapi City Manager|Nov 9, 2019

The City of Tehachapi received electrical power in 1915 when the municipal lighting system went into place. Sooner than many neighbors due to our proximity to the Monolith Cement Plant which was making the cement for the nearby Los Angeles Aqueduct project, as a result we received electricity. Since 1915, even during the rudimentary stages, I can't recall a downed power line starting a wild fire, and that's both in the City and in the surrounding community. The wind has blown in Tehachapi since...
