TVAA is Putting Art Back in the Classroom

Tehachapi Valley Arts Association

Tehachapi Valley Arts Association recently learned how little funding for art is available for the local schools. With this information at hand TVAA's mission was to put art back in the classroom. They began by collecting "wish lists", from art teachers and had a phenomenal response.

After hours of online shopping and several days of transit time the TVAA storeroom looked like Christmas in the spring.

Tables were overflowing with gallons of tempera paints, glue, sets of oil pastels, crayons, markers, play dough, pom-poms, jars of glitters, reams of rainbow of construction paper, colored pencil classroom sets, tissue paper, craft sticks, pounds of buttons and two hundred sets of watercolors.

TVAA delivered the supplies and the teachers were surprised and thrilled the supplies came so quickly.

The purchase of the supplies was made possible by contributions from TVAA and generous local businesses who supported the 2013 TVAA Chalk on the Walk event with their $100 sponsorships. TVAA would like to thank Cal Portland Cement; Grunge Hobbit Art Studio; The Loop; Tehachapi Candle Co; Shannon Hill, Allstate Insurance-Bakersfield; Rob Hill, Allstate Insurance-Bakersfield; Linda Clough, ReMax Tehachapi; Hungry Howie's Pizza; Michael B. Jones, DDS; Dalias Boutique; Bank of the Sierra; Tehachapi Tax Service; Better Ledger; Terry & Charmaine Livingston; Skylark North Glider School; Snow Orthodontics and Mainstreet Tehachapi.
