This Sunday, April 27, kicks off the start of the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association season. Sunday is the first of seven rodeos for the year of 2014. This year features two professional rodeo events and five "Junior Rodeo" events.
Sunday brings the first Junior Rodeo event and is for participants up to the age of twenty.
In the Pee Wee Division, Cowboys and Cowgirls will be competing for points in such old time western events as Stick Horse Racing, Mutton Bustin and Dummy Roping to name just a few.
For the Buckaroo, Junior and Senior Divisions, their point gaining events will include Pole Bending, Barrel Racing, Calf Tying, Team Dogging, Steer Riding, and a host of other events.
"Junior Rodeo" is a series of five rodeos, with all points leading toward a sixth and final "Junior Rodeo" held on Sept. 7 with the top point winners present.
This kickoff rodeo promises to be exciting for participants and the audience as well. All Tehachapi Rodeos are held at the Tehachapi Event Center and Rodeo Grounds, an official joint venture between the TMRA and the City of Tehachapi. Located off of Dennison Road, adjacent to Highway 58, the gates open at 7:30 a.m. Late entry sign up will commence, following with a Ground Rules Meeting for registered participants at 8:45 a.m. The Grand Entry ride in is at 9 a.m. with the days competition starting right after.
Plan to spend the day. Bring a picnic along with a blanket and coat as backup; after all this is Tehachapi. The TMRA food stand will be open during the day for beverages and light food.
