Treasure Trove Feature Artist: Marla Stevens

First Friday

You're invited to come see our ever changing displays full of art, crafts, collectables and art supplies. June's featured artist will be Marla Stevens Please join us for fun, refreshment and art.

Marla creates jewelry, boxes and bouquets using recycled vintage jewelry, buttons and more. Her pieces are whimsical and fun. She started making jewelry about three years ago when she was shopping for a pair of earrings and could not find that for which she was looking. A friend convinced her to go to the craft store and purchase things to make her own earrings. A lover of old things, Marla lives in an old house filled with old things. She started creating jewelry by putting together pieces from her collection of vintage jewelry. Marla has a large collection of old hat pins which she displays in vases. She looked at the displays one day and at her collection of old buttons and developed the idea of button bouquets. The imagination is endless.

Marla has lived in Bakersfield for around 20 years. She frequently traveled to Tehachapi to visit her late aunt and uncle. She had been a customer of Cross Roads and other down town stores for the past 10 years and has purchased many pieces from Tehachapi artists. When she inquired about what had happened to Cross Roads she was referred to the Treasure Trove and has become a regular customer. She started displaying her work at the Treasure Trove in March. She also displays her work in galleries in Pine Mountain Club and Ventura.

You're invited to The Treasure Trove on Friday, June 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. for our First Friday event. Come have a glass of champagne or wine, a bite to eat, say "hello" to Marla and join the fun!
